Josh Pertnoy Climbs the Ladder at Shapiro Pertnoy, Building Second-Generation Construction Empire

Wellington, FL – April 4, 2012 – It’s a “Cinderella Story” when it comes to Josh Pertnoy, principal of the Shapiro-Pertnoy Companies. He undoubtedly began his career in one of the most unglamorous roles—sweeping floors and working as a laborer from adolescence. Presently, Pertnoy works with the two-generation company handling the construction of all residential and commercial buildings. It has been 13 years since Pertnoy joined the family business, bringing a youthful dynamism and hunger for knowledge while introducing a fresh outlook to the 34 year old company .

Pertnoy’s father, Ronnie, raised his son in the construction business, familiarizing him with the business in terms of labor and customer relations. Pertnoy began working full-time for Shapiro-Pertnoy Companies 13 years ago, quickly ascending the learning curve to grasp onto the multi-dimensional world of high-end construction. The one thing he always has cherished about his work ethic is what his father instilled in him as a child—sincerity.

“I think watching my dad while I was growing up and seeing how he interacted with our clients, subcontractors and people who work for us really helped me to learn those ethics and become the person I am today,” Pertnoy explained. “The hard work, honesty and ability to try and make sure everyone we work for is 100% satisfied really kind of shined through more than anything else.”

A Florida licensed contractor, Pertnoy manages all of the sites and handles the budgeting, schedules and employees on the job. He oversees a full-time staff of nearly 15 construction personnel and multiple, simultaneous construction projects. To date, his largest project is a 30,000 square foot waterfront residence in Jupiter, FL. Six years in the planning and four years in the construction process, his signature project sets the bar for quality, and his more recent projects only act to enhance his reputation in the real estate world.

Pertnoy has managed many property sites, and seen great success; however, he admitted that his favorite part of the job is when the house is complete and the client finally steps over the threshold . The moment the lights turn on, he explained, and our client sees their finished home, he gets an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and relief.

As the Shapiro-Pertnoy Companies enter their 34th year, Pertnoy continues to pursue new clients from all ends of the construction spectrum. He has built luxurious residential estates, office buildings and even a zoo—there is no job that Shapiro-Pertnoy Companies cannot do, especially with the second generation acting as such a guiding force.

“Honestly, it feels like it happened over night. I went from sweeping floors to waking up and having an active role in the business,” Pertnoy concluded. “Time has a way of flying by when you love what you’re doing and these past few years have been great. I’d like to have another 35 years of having a great reputation and growing the business. I have pride in what I do, and I think that is one of the most important things in construction.”

For 34 years, the Shapiro-Pertnoy Companies have been the choice of discerning homebuyers throughout South Florida. From a spectacular 30,000 square foot residential compound in Jupiter to the equestrian communities of Wellington, and from luxury lifestyles in the mountains of North Carolina to a new professional office complex in Palm Beach Gardens, the Shapiro-Pertnoy Companies remain in the forefront of development in the upscale residential and commercial markets.
